Xiaomi has unveiled its latest Android flagship smartphone: the Mi5, which features a 5.15-inch full HD screen and a ceramic back plate on its most expensive model.

The new phone -- the successor to the Mi4 -- also packs a camera with a 16MP Sony IMX298 sensor and four-way optical image stabilisation. It also sports a 4MP front camera and a fingerprint sensor.

The 69.2mm by 144.55mm by 7.25mm device packs a 3000mAh battery and comes in black, gold, and white, and weighs in at 129g -- which, as Xiaomi notes, is 14g lighter than the iPhone 6s. Other features include NFC and Quick-charge 3.0, 4GB of RAM, and up to 128GB of internal storage.

Xiaomi said the 32GB model with a 1.8GHz Snapdragon 820 processor and glass back will cost RMB 1,999 (around $300), while the 64GB model with a 2.1GHz processor costs RMB 2,299 ($350). The top-end 'Pro' model, which features a ceramic back cover, costs RMB 2,999 ($460).

Even though Xiaomi doesn't sell its handsets in the US or Europe, it is still keenly watched because of its rapid growth, which has seen it take on big players like Samsung and Huawei.
