Yamaha has introduced theTSX-140 desktop audio system, which appears to be more than just your ordinary iPod dock.
Sporting 3½–inch ported bass reflex speakers and digital amplifiers, Yamaha has incorporated some high-quality sound technologies for this high-end desktop set-up, including Concert Quality Sound that "virtually eliminates all unnecessary noise and distortion," and Extended Stereo for a larger stereo sound field.
For a more personal touch, the TSX-140 also features a function called IntelliAlarm. The user selects the audio source and the TSX-140 takes care of the rest by filtering out annoyingly high frequencies. That source is used to awake the user by gradually elevating the volume for a more peaceful wake-up call.
Note that the dock is only compatible with the iPod Touch and iPhone (3G/3GS/4). These devices can be synced to a computer thanks to the integrated USB mini-B connector.
Available now in three basic tones (black, brick and gray), the Yamaha TSX-140 retails for $399.95.
