The chief creative officer Mike Verdu, Cityville general manager Alan Patmore, Allan Leinwand, one of the company's chief technology officers and Farmville general manager Bill Mooney have all also recently left the ailing social games company.

Karp joined the company in 2011 as an ex-veteran of Electronic Arts, where he was the executive vice president of the firm's Play label.

A filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission detailing the departure was filed on Monday.

Zynga said in a statement:

Jeff Karp is leaving Zynga, and the groups in his organization have been realigned under appropriate existing divisions. Our marketing and revenue teams have always been industry leaders, and as we continue our transition toward mobile and multiplatform game creation and distribution, their continued execution will be key to our future success.

We are grateful to Jeff for his contributions over the last year and wish him well in his future endeavors.

Zynga has experienced a slump in market value since its stock market debut in December 2011, and is most widely known for popular Facebook games including Farmville. The company reported a net loss in Q2. As the company is dependent on social networking site Facebook, it blamed poor financial results on changes to Facebook's algorithm and delays in bringing out new titles.
