The Commonwealth Bank of Australia is currently experiencing an outage, with no specific details about what is causing it.

"Commonwealth Bank is currently experiencing system problems. We have identified the issue and we are working to restore services as a priority. We apologise for any inconvenience caused," a Commonwealth Bank spokesperson told ZDNet.

This is a similar message the Bank delivered to its customers via its Twitter feed.

The outage appears to be affecting a majority of its services, including ATMs, EFTPOS, telephone banking, and internet banking.

While there have been serious concerns surrounding companies and the Heartbleed bug, ZDNet understands that the technical issues are unrelated to Heartbleed.

This is despite ongoing confusion that the bank caused when it posted on its blog that said it had "patched against the 'Heartbleed' bug", but customers did not need to change any NetBank passwords.

Later on, the bank eventually clarified that its NetBank system does not use OpenSSL.

"NetBank does not (and did not) use OpenSSL. All customer data is safe, so customers do not need to change their NetBank passwords or take any action," the bank said in an update.

UPDATE: Commonwealth Bank has released a statement indicating that all "technical issues has been resolved and full service are progressively being restored".
