Fandango testing paperless ticket app (updated 2x)

Movie site Fandango is developing a ticketless iPhone app that will display a scannable bar code on-screen.

Fandango's Darren Cross made an interesting comment at a session on iPhone apps at CES 2010. He told the audience that the movie ticket broker was developing a ticketless iPhone app that will display a scannable bar code on-screen, saving the user the step (and cost) of having to print a hard-copy ticket.

Cross said “We’re testing it now. It’s not too far away. We’ll have it pretty soon.”

Update: Starbucks is testing a similar feature in its Starbucks Card Mobile app (free) which allows you to purchase coffee in  Seattle, Cupertino and Mountain View with a scannable image on the iPhone screen.

Update2: Another app in this category is CardStar (free) which eliminates the need to carry a porcupine key ring of pesky loyalty, reward and membership cards, displaying the various barcodes on your iPhone screen instead.
