Hoping to attract new customers in the new year, Intuit is offering a free credit card reader and no monthly service fees for its GoPayment mobile payment service through mid-February.

Intended for small business owners, the promotion is only valid for new subscribers. For reference, GoPayment permits users to swipe and process credit cards within seconds rather than enter card data manually. The system never saves sensitive information, but it does keep track of frequently sold items and can send customized receipts via text or email. Funds are deposited into the business owner's bank account within two to three business days.

For those with a "lower or intermittent credit card processing volume," the monthly service free is dropped through mid-February (no specific date given, but expect prior to Presidents' Day), and a $0.15 transaction fee. Higher volume users will have to fork over a $12.95 monthly fee and pay $0.30 per transaction.
