ABC signs $100m Optus satellite deal
in brief The Australian Broadcasting Corporation has inked a $100 million deal with Optus to provide satellite services for a further eight years.
The deal will see Optus continue to support ABC's digital television transmission, signal carriage between its city hubs and regional centres and support broadcast to regional areas. Optus has provided telecommunication services to the ABC since 1985.
"The group continues to provide quality service and cost efficiencies that will meet the present needs of the ABC well into 2017," Vicki Brady, managing director of Optus Wholesale and Satellite said in a statement.
The contract comes as Optus gears up to launch the third of its D-series satellites from French Guiana in the second half of 2009, which it has said will add 30 per cent more capacity to its existing satellite fleet.
