Docomo sets up Singapore subsidiary targeting Japanese

The operator's subsidiary will act as a sales agent of StarHub to provide Japanese language support to consumers and businesses starting Jan. 2, 2013.

NTT Docomo has set up a wholly-owned subsidiary in Singapore targeting Japanese customers and travellers. 

In a statement Thursday, the Japanese company said the subsidiary, which will begin operating in Jan. 1, 2013, will be a sales agent of the Singapore's second largest mobile operator StarHub. It will support Japanese speakers in Singapore with sales of mobile phones, cable television and broadband Internet as well as provide Japanese language support with billing plans, handset use and registration.

Docomo Singapore will also provide Japanese businesses with consultation regarding billing plans and international roaming. The unit will have a support desk to help Japanese travelers with mobile communication outside of Japan.

The new subsidiary will take over the business of DOCOMO's Singapore representative office, established in 2005, which will cease operations after cancelling its business registration.

According to statistics from the Embassy of Japan, Singapore has one of the largest Japanese communities in the region with more than 24,000 Japanese citizens and approximately 1,000 Japanese companies.
