UK notebook specialist Dual Technology today claimed to be the world's first notebook maker to build an internal magneto-optical (MO) disk drive into its products.

The MO drive debuts in Dual's P5700 notebook, slotting into the same bay as a CD-ROM drive. Buyers will pay £199 for the MO option instead of a CD-ROM drive, or £350 for both. The drive supports capacities of 230Mb or 640Mb per disk. 230Mb MO disks cost from £24, according to Dual.
Dual expects the MO option to sell heavily into environments where data security is key.
The product will be available from mid-July.
