Ericsson sneaks preview of crypto modem

Swedish telecommunications giant Ericsson has produced a modem which uses data encryption in firmware to transfer data securely, according to a report today.

The Ericsson V.34 33,600bps HE modem uses code based on the Data Encryption algorithm and will be targeted at banks and other organisations requiring encryption. No details on pricing or UK availability have yet been released and Ericsson was unavailable for comment.
