Three more U.S. colleges have signed up for the LED University program that is backed and publicized by LED technology company Cree. The schools include Indiana's University of Notre Dame, North Carolina's North Carolina State University and Wisconsin's Madison Area Technical College.

The installations range from modest to extensive. At Notre Dame, LEDs are making an appearance in the Hesburgh Library; North Carolina State University has used the lighting in its Dan Allen Parking Deck and part of Bragaw Residence Hall; and Madison Area Tech has installed 400 LED fixtures around the campus to replace fluorescent ones. You can click on any of the links to read about the energy savings involved in each case, which range from 30 percent to 80 percent.
