O2 is to launch a fixed/mobile convergence service for small businesses, the company has said.

The service, called Fixed Number Anywhere, will give users a landline-style number that channels calls straight through to their mobile phone, a spokesperson for the operator told ZDNet UK on Wednesday.

Customers who sign up this year will be able to port their existing BT local number to O2 at no charge. They will also be able to get the service at a promotional price of £10 per month, which is slightly less than the cost of a BT landline.

Fixed Mobile Anywhere will launch in August, O2's spokesperson said. Further details will be released when the service is officially announced. A report in Mobile suggests that different versions of the package will see multiple landline numbers routed to a single mobile phone, or single landline numbers routed to multiple mobile phones.
