Optical servers: at the heart of tomorrow's data centre?
Servers of tomorrow will be optically powered, and consume a fraction of the power they do today. This means less heat, less energy consumption and, of course, data centres whose compute power is -- well, not infinitely -- but orders of magnitude better than today's.

No, not my vision -- although I hope that we will at some point develop a technology that removes the performance bottlenecks manifested by today's silicon-based technology.
Rather, I found this article on Forbes' website. Written in 2000, it posited the vision I outlined above (adjusted by me to fit into today's computing environment) and projected forward to 2010.
Yeah, next year.
Easy mistake to make...but what's your vision?
