We're going to offer a prize to the best response to a news story we receive each week. Just e-mail us with your comment and name and we''ll do the rest. This week the booty goes to Alan Patil for his comments on Gateway dealing Office 97 upgrades at £20 a throw.
"It's interesting to see Gateway offering a virtually free upgrade to Office 97 and Dell saying it's stupid. Dell US has been offering free upgrades to Office 97 for the at least a month (see www.dell.com), as have Gateway US. Being interested in a purchasing a PC I rang Dell UK about a week or two ago and was told they did not have any intention of offering free upgrades. Hearing this I decided to put of the purchase until they did, or I might go for Gateway if Dell don't offer free upgrades next month."
