Despite Nasdaq's three per cent drop on Friday, European tech and telecoms companies have opened solidly.

Trading of Marconi stock was particularly active this morning; it was up more than one per cent as of 09:15(GMT). Colt Telecom was one of the FTSE100 top gainers - up 3.5 per cent during early trading. BT initially climbed two per cent following reports that it could abandon its plans to float its mobile phone operations and offer discounted shares to existing investors instead. The FTSE100 saw gains of 0.42 per cent while the Paris CAC 40 was up 0.53 per cent and the
Frankfurt DAX 30 up 0.23 per cent.
