The Vodafone Foundation has committed £100,000 to the Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC) for relief efforts in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Fighting in the eastern DRC has displaced at least a quarter of a million people.

"The £100,000 donation from the Vodafone Foundation will be channelled by the DEC to assist the distribution of aid to the most vulnerable recipients, providing shelter, food, water and medical supplies to displaced people in eastern DRC," a Thursday statement from Vodafone read.

The Vodafone Foundation also has a tie-in with Telecoms Sans Frontieres, through which it will be "providing emergency telecoms assistance for the refugee relief effort" and helping co-ordinate the response of the World Food Programme.
