in brief Fledgling telco group the Australian Voice over
IP Association (AVOIPA) is being absorbed into the Australian
Communications Industry Forum (ACIF).
AVOIPA was established last year in a bid to self-regulate the VoIP
industry, but founder Mike Carew said the industry needed a
"ACIF has demonstrated that it has the resources and the
expertise to achieve the sorts of cooperative outcomes our
industry will need as VoIP and NGN [next generation network]
services challenge the traditional technologies," Carew said.
AVOIPA had attacted industry giants such as Telstra and Intel
to its cause.
