US based wholesale ISPs Spinway and 1stup.com have closed down their operations due to financial difficulties.
1stup.com, owned by internet incubator CMGI, announced recently it will no longer be operating its wholesale internet access services. The closure has left 130 of its partners, including many well known portals such as Altavista, Lycos, Excite and Gay.com without an access provider. The total number of subscribers affected is estimated at three million. Spinway, whose customers included Barnesandnoble.com and Kmart.com, shut down its operations last week.
