THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., 14 June 2000 -- Xircom, Inc. (Nasdaq: XIRC), a provider of mobile information access solutions, and Cisco Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:CSCO), today announced an agreement to cooperate in the development, marketing, and sales of mobile wireless LAN (WLAN) network adapters based on the IEEE 802.11b Wireless Ethernet standard.

Xircom will now be able to provide a total package of wireless data solutions for Wide Area, Personal Area, and Local Area Networks and expands Cisco's Aironet WLAN product offering to include a complete family of industry standard network adapters.

Xircom and Cisco will jointly develop and market handheld, Universal Serial Bus (USB), Mini PCI, and PC Card adapters in both industry-standard and Xircom-unique form factors, including Xircom's RealPort2.

Realport2 Integrated PC Cards provide additional flexibility by allowing users to select from separate function cards and combine them together for a fully customized, cable-free solution.

Wireless LAN access allows users with laptop, notebook, and handheld devices to move freely within a campus or building environment while maintaining uninterrupted connection to centrally located data and the Internet. One of the first new wireless adapters to be developed as part of the agreement between Cisco and Xircom will be Xircom's Springboard

The new wireless LAN module incorporates Cisco's Aironet technology, and is scheduled for availability late in the calendar year 2000.

"With the adoption of the IEEE 802.11b standard, the WLAN market is now a viable solution for deployment in a variety of locations and applications."
