Chromebook shipments are expected to grow 33.5% year-on-year in 2021 and reach 43.4 million units. But looking forward, IDC is predicting that growth will vanish in 2022 and, in fact, decline until 2025.

The IaaS public cloud services market grew by more than 40% in 2020 and reached a high of $64.3 billion, says analyst Gartner. Amazon far outpaced the rest of the market with $26.2 billion of revenue in 2020 and a commanding 41% market share.

Are companies really going to repatriate their cloud workloads? Probably not. According to Flexera's 2021 State of Cloud report, cloud costs are the hardest thing to manage. For the last five years, optimizing cloud costs was the number one initiative cited in Flexera's surveys.

Less than 25% of organizations have complete visibility into IT assets as enterprises wrestle with data quality and tracking across on premises and cloud infrastructure, according to a Flexera survey. Vulnerabilities were cited by 49% of respondents as their greatest concern about IT assets.

App developers are having a good year, according to new statistics from market data company App Annie, which found that users spent $34 billion on apps in Q2 of 2021. Android and iPhone users spent $7 billion more in Q2 than last year and $2 billion more than Q1 2021.

Broadcom reported better-than-expected fiscal second quarter results and projected strong demand ahead. The company reported second quarter net income of $1.49 billion. Semiconductors were 73% of sales with software, led by CA Technologies, representing 27%.
