Automakers bet their future on the audience reaction to their concept cars at the Paris Motor Show. The vehicle designs ranged from small, eco-friendly city cars to high-performance exotics.

Citroen shows off the Hypnos, a hybrid model with a 2-liter diesel engine up front and an electric motor on the rear axle. It is expected to get 52 miles per gallon on this model that runs about two miles on the electric engine before the diesel engine kicks in.

Peugeot's RC HYmotion4 is a hybrid that sports a 70 kilowatt electric motor in the front and a 1.6-liter gas engine in the rear. The RC HYmotion4 can run on either electric or gas alone claims 52 mpg and only 109 grams of CO2 per kilometer.

Nissan's Nuvu concept car uses an electric power train that uses solar panels on top and is just 9-foot long. There's room for a driver on one side and 1 or 2 passengers on the other.

The Mazda Kiyora uses a 1.3-liter direct injection engine, keeping a lid on carbon emissions. The highlight of the Kiyora is its translucent panels along the doors.
