Image Gallery: HTC S740 Windows Mobile Standard (non-touch screen) device
There seem to be fewer and fewer non-touch screen Windows Mobile devices available today and one of the best I have tried in a long time is the HTC S740. The S740 is not available from a US wireless carrier, but is available from importers and works on GSM networks. It is one of the narrowest Windows Mobile devices I have used, yet it has a full QWERTY keyboard as well hidden under the display and phone keypad.
Both of these devices are non-touch screen Windows Mobile devices. The S740 has better specifications and is a fantastic device.
Both keyboards are now slid open so you can see the different keyboard configurations used on each.
A phone keypad is spacious and found on the bottom of the front of the S740.
The directional pad, hardware buttons, and send/end keys are found above the keypad.
The book looks classy and has that great soft touch material.
The 3.2 megapixel takes decent photos, but is not as good as the HTC Touch Pro.
The HTC extUSB port is found on the bottom and is used for syncing, charging, and headset usage.
The camera shutter button is on the right side, but it does not have a focus feature so pushing half way doesn't do anything for the camera.
There are two volume buttons to control system volume on the device.
The HTC Rose keyboard is very well hidden and as you can see is quite functional with the width running the full length of the phne.
Here is a close-up of the left side. Up on the top you can see the Caps & FN indicator lights.
The right side of the keyboard has directional arrows for another form of navigation when the keyboard is available.
The keyboard has good spacing and the feedback and travel actually feel decent when you enter text.
This menu appears when you transform from portrait to landscape (slide out the keyboard) mode.
The WM 6.1 Standard Home screen is highly functional and useful on the S740.
There is a quick way to access your most common settings right from the Home screen.
A slimmed down version of the HTC Weather utility is available on the Home screen.
Selecting the weather application from the Home screen reveals the 5-day forecast.
You can quickly bounce between your favorites from the Home screen.
