I'm hearing rumors that tech vendor Abit will closing come the end of the year as parent company Universal Scientific Industrial restructures.

The source of the story seems to be TweakTown:

Computer enthusiasts join me in bidding farewell to the once mighty strong ABIT - they are going to close the company once and for all on December 31st.

X-bit labs isn't surprised:

Earlier this year a web-site reported that expectations of Universal Scientific Industrial (USI) for Abit's business had not been met and the holding was mulling to pull out Abit brand from the motherboard business and refocus the company on other devices. It was claimed that Abit sold from two to three million mainboards last year and this year the company's sales dropped even further. The company denied the information back then.

I've approached Abit for comment but so far I've not been able to get in touch with anyone,

If this is true, it's a real shame.
