On the ease-of-use front, Acronis claims that no installation is required for the cloud console, while only three clicks are needed for the on-premise console, compared to 26 clicks for the product's (unnamed) closest competitor.

There are huge speed increases, too. With Acronis Instant Restore, Acronis claims Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) in 15 seconds or less by running any physical or virtual Windows or Linux system backup as a VMware or Hyper-V virtual machine.

Acronis claims that testing carried out by Network Testing Labs shows Acronis Backup 12 "largely outperformed other competitors" and took only 35.6 minutes to backup a 180GB virtual machine.

Acronis Backup 12 works with Windows PCs and tablets, Macs, iPads, and iPhones, and all Android devices, and it supports a broad range of Microsoft infrastructure and applications, including Office365, SharePoint, Active Directory, Hyper-V, Azure, and Azure Stack. It is also compatible with four encryption standards.

Backup 12 offers a range of recovery options as well, including:

  • File, email, and database recovery
  • System recovery, including bare-metal recovery, active restore, instant restore, and vmFlashBack
  • Cloud disaster recovery

Acronis Backup 12 is available for purchase from Acronis partners, and there's a free trial available for testing.
