The Apple Watch is the best smartwatch I have ever used, but it still needs to be charged each evening to be ready for a full day's work. I've been spending a few days with the coolest way to charge your Apple Watch and iPhone each evening.
Belkin just announced the new Charge Dock for Apple Watch + iPhone and I've been using it with my new Apple iPhone 6s Plus and Apple Watch Sport edition for the last several days.
A few months ago I wrote about the low cost Griffin WatchStand and have had it charging my Apple Watch on my nightstand. It is a nice solution for charging your Apple Watch, but it required using the Apple Watch charging dock and there was no option to charge up my iPhone.
The new Belkin Charge Dock provides an embedded Apple Watch charging dock and adjustable Lightning port. I can now use the Apple Watch charging dock provided with my Apple Watch for keeping my Apple Watch powered up when I travel while also having my Lightning cable for charging my iPhone 6s Plus at work.
The Belkin Charge Dock consists of a rather heavy solid metal base with brushed silver finish, Apple iPhone charging area, rear Lightning connector dial, A/C charging port, and chrome finish metal arm with an Apple Watch charging dock at the end.
The Apple Watch magnetically attaches to the charge dock at the end of the chrome finish arm. If you have a metal band for your Apple Watch, then you should consider using the included plastic guide that helps hold heavier bands in place. I only own Sport bands so don't need to use the plastic snap-on guide.
Your iPhone rests against the vertical part of the chrome metal arm. There is a black rubber piece across the horizontal part of the arm to protect the back of your iPhone from scratches. At the bottom of this vertical piece, embedded within the base, is a long rubber insert that helps keep your iPhone from sliding off the solid metal base.
You can tell the folks at Belkin put serious thought into the design of the Belkin Charge Dock as the Lightning connector is attached to a jog dial on the back that is used to raise and lower the Lightning connector so that the dock works when your iPhone is installed in a number of different case types.
There is an included A/C adapter that plugs into the back of the solid metal dock near the jog dial. A 1.5 meter cable is used so that the dock can be mounted on a typical nightstand or table.
The new Belkin Charge Dock for Apple Watch + iPhone is available now for $129.99 at Belkin.com and will be sold at retail and online Apple stores. While this may seem a bit expensive, this single dock solution alleviates the need for having both an Apple Watch charging cradle and Lightning charge cable too.
The Belkin Charge Dock is extremely well made with an elegant design, fit, and finish. This is the perfect solution for charging your Apple Watch and iPhone each evening and makes a great bedside accessory. In the past, I left my Apple Watch behind when I traveled since I didn't have a spare charging cradle, but can now take it on the road.
If you own an Apple Watch and an iPhone, then I highly recommend this charging solution. I plan to pick one up soon as it is exactly what I have been looking for. It looks great in the office and next to the bed.
