Compaq secures £16.5m Halifax deal
Compaq this week secured a £16.5 million deal with the Halifax, the UK's largest building society.

Compaq beat IBM and Olivetti to the contract and will supply the Halifax with 12,000 133MHz Pentium-based Deskpro 2000 PCs, and 220 166MHz Pentium-based ProLiant 4500 and 1500 servers. All machines will run under Windows NT, replacing the company's legacy front-office Philips/DEC system which also includes Compaq PC and server hardware.
