Kuala Lumpur, Dec 3 (Asia Pulse) - Compaq Computer Corporation Malaysia Sdn Bhd will implement the electronic infrastructure that will form the Business Focus group's eBusiness backbone.

In a statement Thursday, Compaq said it had signed a Strategic Alliance Agreement with BFit Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Business Focus group, for the purpose. It said the agreement also included the joint infrastructure development for Integrated Logistic Support, a key software component of the Royal Malaysian Navy's (RMN) Offshore Patrol Vessels project, as well as other end-to-end e-commerce solutions such as e-procurement, finance and human resources.

Compaq said the pact was in line with its NonStop eBusiness initiative which was designed to deliver continuous mission-critical computing to customers in a rapidly evolving Internet-based economy. Its NonStop eBusiness featured solutions, services, products and technology that enabled enterprise customers of all sizes to compete effectively in a 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week marketplace, Compaq said. Business Focus executive chairman Amin Shah Omar Shah said the decision to embrace a comprehensive e-business strategy was made when the group was awarded the RMN's Offshore Patrol Vessels project.

He also said there was a need to improve the supply chain performance for the building of the RMN's Offshore Patrol Vessels and simplify the acquisition and payment process, thus leading to better returns through cost reduction. The other basis was to increase operational efficiency, thus improving the time-to-build factor of the vessels, and to act as a catalyst for participating suppliers to tap the global market through the Internet via BFit's One-Stop Marine eXchange portal.

The One-Stop Marine eXchange, which was officially launched on Dec 1, was built around a web portal that was designed to be a definitive information and transaction eXchange, he said. As part of the agreement, BFit and Compaq would jointly develop and market comprehensive end-to-end e-commerce solutions, including software, hardware, planning and implementation services.

The solutions via One-Stop Marine eXchange would provide a conducive e-business environment, enabling partners and suppliers access to regional and global maritime markets, Compaq business development director Mohd Asri Hassan Sabri said.
