Dell sales up but profits static

Dell has said its profits for the fourth quarter will be the same as the previous quarter, although sales will be up slightly. The PC industry is still waiting with bated breath for signs of when users will start replacing their PCs with newer models. However, Dell indicated that there is significant pent-up demand for both desktops and laptops. Dell still has a 14.5 per cent share of the PC market ahead of Compaq's 11 per cent. Michael Dell recently said his ambition is to grow this to 40 per cent.
