Dropbox launched Paper in private beta less than a year ago, and users have created over a million docs so far.

Dropbox on Wednesday announced it has launched its collaborative note-taking tool Paper in open beta. It has also released new Paper mobile apps for Android and iOS.

Paper competes with the likes of Box Notes, Google Docs, Microsoft Office, Evernote, and Slack -- and the space became a bit more competitive earlier this week, with Salesforce's acquisition of Quip.

Dropbox launched Paper in private beta less than a year ago, and the company says it's improving the product based on feedback it's received from users. For instance, they've enhanced tables and image galleries, improved the search function to sift through documents and added desktop and mobile notifications.

While it competes with Google Docs, Dropbox notes that Paper can connect to Google Calendar. Ahead of a meeting, users can take advantage of the integration to create a custom notes doc that can be automatically shared with the meeting's attendees.

Over the past year, Dropbox has focused more on its enterprise business. Just last week, the cloud-based storage business rolled out new features for its admin dashboard and added more folder-level controls for document sharing, organization, and security.
