Eaton gives you more power over your power
Power equipment manufacturer Eaton has compressed the design for a new three-phase data center uninterruptible power systems (UPS), called the Eaton 9390IT, which is 61 percent smaller than units from rival manufacturers. The technology also uses a double-conversion process, which Eaton says helps the 40kVA UPS deliver efficiency of 99 percent.

The UPS, priced at about $25,000 in its typical stand-alone configuration, is designed with standard internal batteries and has an on-board, prewired, integrated maintenance bypass to make it easier to service the product without disrupting workloads.Eaton also has released Power Xpert version 2.0, which comes in a profession edition that works with Eaton switchgear, UPS and power distribution systems or an enterprise edition that systems integrators or data center managers can use to develop connections into third-party products. New features in the software include:
- Simpler installation through what Eaton calls a Deployment Validation Utility
- A Power Xpert Reporting module, which produces enterprise-wide reports of power consumption or energy usage. There are seven built-in reports along with tables that can be automated to run and alert people about trends according to a schedule. Among the different things your organization can produce are capacity summary, branch circuit monitoring, energy summary, energy cost allocation and power quality analysis. Special note for hospital professionals: The software supports power compliance reporting for the Joint Commission. Reporting can be handled down to the device level.
