Many of us look to Twitter to provide us with breaking news while Facebook remains the place where misinformation seems to run rampant. Facebook's new Instant Articles product is designed to help publishers create content for Facebook consumption.

While speed is key to Instant Articles, Facebook is also providing publishers the ability to create an interactive experience for readers. This includes video auto-play, zooming into photos by tilting your phone, audio captions, interactive maps, and more.

Facebook Chief Product Officer Chris Cox stated the following:

Fundamentally, this is a tool that enables publishers to provide a better experience for their readers on Facebook. Instant Articles lets them deliver fast, interactive articles while maintaining control of their content and business models.

There are nine launch partners available for Instant Articles: The New York Times, National Geographic, BuzzFeed, NBC, The Atlantic, The Guardian, BBC News, Spiegel and Bild. Instant Articles is launching first on the Apple iPhone.

Publishers will be able to sell ads in articles or use Facebook's Audience Network to monetize content. Data and traffic can be tracked through comScore and other analytics tools.
