How do you get rid of tech junk?

Question from a reader called MrD:
You're always covering new stuff we can buy, but what do you suggest we do with all the old stuff? I've got a couple of old monitors here, a few systems and a load of peripherals (keyboards, mice, a ZIP drive, an external CD drive, speakers and a few other bits) that I don't use but are otherwise in good working order. Recycling them seems wasteful, selling them a pain and I have no idea how to go about giving them away.
Ideas?
For me, this is not much of an issue because pretty much everything I don't want any more goes to someone else if it's working (people seem to put dibs on things early on ... which is kinda creepy). I also have an extensive store of parts which have been reclaimed from systems that have died (most die because of a single part going wrong, leaving the rest in working order).
All this means that for me, getting rid of old stuff is not a problem. :-) I handle a LOT of tech and very little of it ends up as recycling.
How do you get rid of stuff you no longer want, need, or have the space for?
