Barcelona servers are finally coming to an OEM near you.
As reported previously, AMD said it will begin volume shipments of Barcelona-based chips right about now and OEMs will have systems in April. AMD said that these chips would be offered in systems at hardware makers' discretion. Amid a bevy of data center announcements HP noted that it will offer a Barcelona server available in May.
Specifically, HP is rolling out the ProLiant DL785 G5 server. The eight socket x86 server is based on the quad-core AMD Opteron.
And being included in HP's data center announcements is a decent victory for AMD, which is really pushing the Barcelona platform to data center managers based on its virtualization hooks and power consumption.
