iPlanet, the Sun-Netscape alliance, has expanded its product line to include an updated version of its web server and three new editions of the iPlanet application server.

iPlanet's new product line is an essential component of the Sun Open Net Environment (ONE), the next-generation open web services software environment. New features in iPlanet Web Server 6.0 include the support of virtual domains and enhanced security as well as performance improvements. With the standard edition comes full support for Java Servlets and JavaServer Pages, as well as additional session management and monitoring capabilities for deploying web applications. Designed for customers who need to develop and deploy highly scalable transactional business logic, the Enterprise Edition 6.0 provides full support for Enterprise JavaBeans as well as load-balancing, clustering and distributed transaction performance. The Enterprise Pro Edition 6.0 adds business workflow management tools and application integration capabilities that leverage the J2EE framework. This edition includes a Universal Integration Framework for projects that require tight integration into existing enterprise applications including PeopleSoft, SAP, Tuxedo and IBM CICS. According to a report by Forrester Research, iPlanet's Application Server ranked first above IBM's WebSphere Advanced Edition, SilverStream's Application Server, Microsoft's Windows 2000 Server and Inprise's Application Server.
