Juniper Networks will acquire Ankeena Networks in a move that broadens the company's software footprint.

Ankeena is a privately-held provider of software used to speed up online content delivery. Ankeena's flagship application is Media Flow Director, which is used to deliver live and on-demand video content on mobile screens.

According to Juniper, the deal value was less than $100 million. Other terms weren't disclosed.

Juniper said it will add Ankeena's wares to its Junos Ready Software group. Juniper can sell Ankeena's software as it pitches telecom carriers.

Ankeena's management team---CEO Rajan Raghavan, CTO and Strategy Officer Prabakar Sundarrajan, Chief Architect Jaspal Kohli, and Vice President of Engineering Kumar Narayanan---will join Juniper's software unit.
