Logitech on Thursday unveiled the Ultimate Ears 18 Pro custom monitors, the new flagship earphones that pack six drivers in each ear.

Each bud manages to fit two woofers, two midrange and two treble drivers inside, as well as a four-way crossover and three-channel design that the company says keeps the frequencies isolated until they reach your ear drums.

Make no mistake, these custom ear monitors are for touring musicians -- they're not for your daily commute to work. (For that, see my review of the $200 UE 700 earbuds.)

The UE 18 Pro monitors are compatible with wireless transmission systems and portable media players. They come packaged in an aluminum "roadie box" and require "ear impressions" by an audiologist before you can wear them.

They'll be available in February for (gulp) $1,350.

Logitech also announced at the NAMM show the UE 1 Pro custom monitors, intended for in-studio recording and live stage performances. The UE 1 fits four speakers inside, has a single cable and will be available in February for $449.
