Perhaps demonstrating to practice what a company preaches, software analytics provider New Relic is taking a closer look at its own data with the hiring of its first-ever chief information officer.
Yvonne Wassenaar is being promoted from the company's senior vice president of operations to CIO. In her new role, she will be tasked with scaling New Relic's internal technology platform and processes with the goal of supporting business growth.
This includes establishing best practices for "implementing a data-driven culture," according to New Relic's announcement on Friday.
"At New Relic, we are data nerds at heart. We believe that there is huge opportunity for all companies to increase innovation and competitive advantage by combining technology and data," explained Wassenaar in prepared remarks. "In this new role, my objective is to exemplify what it means to be a data-driven business."
The pressure is on as New Relic aims to find its footing since going public in December.
In its first quarterly earnings report as a public company, New Relic turned out better-than-expected third quarter revenue in February.
Nevertheless, New Relic still posted a sizable net loss at $15.9 million, or 70 cents per share.
Wassenaar joined New Relic just under a year ago in August 2014. Prior to New Relic, Wassenaar held a variety of strategic leadership positions at VMware.
Wassenaar also spent 18 years at Accenture, starting out as a computer programmer and rising to Partner status by the end of her tenure.
Reflecting on Wassenaar's considerable industry experience, New Relic CEO and founder Lew Cirne wrote, "We believe her expertise will also prove an invaluable resource to our customers, helping them adopt best practices for deploying software analytics to manage their businesses."
