Unix veteran SCO and Linux upstart Caldera have finally released a preview of the new 64bit Unix operating system, product of the high-profile Project Monterey started back in 1998.

The OS, now going under the slightly more prosaic moniker of AIX 5L, has been developed jointly by SCO and IBM to get Unix on the Intel 64bit Itanium chip. Caldera has been instrumental in creating a 'Linux affinity' which will let Linux apps run on the new OS. The technology preview release will be free of charge for developers and will not include technical support.
