Retrevo plays matchmaker between consumers and electronics

I use search engines, primarily Google, all the time to find mobile device reviews, specifications, manual, rumors, and other information. While Google is very good, it also returns back a ton of information that isn't always what I am looking for and I have to spend time weeding through the results. Last fall, there was a first launch of a vertical search site for consumer electronics. Today, the site was "relaunched" with a new clean UI, personalization capabilities, and consumer friendly data aggregation. In addition to helping you find what you are really looking for, Retrevo analyzes the information and produces a brief summary. As stated on their website, their first analysis service, Product Discovery Map is focused on the shopping and buying stages.

Retrevo helps you discover products that match your interests, tells you if the product is a good value for its price and feature set, and aggregates expert and user reviews into a single sentiment rating. Retrevo states that the user will:

  • Spend less time searching
  • Spend less time looking at things that do not matter
  • Spend less time explaining what they want to their computer
  • Receive honest advise on good products to buy that match their needs
  • Be empowered and confident before they buy online or go to the electronics store

I gave a quick look at Retrevo this morning and think I have a new favorite search site for consumer electronics, which is where I spend most of my time online. With the few test searches I conducted it did a good job of returning results that were very relevant to my search term. I also like the way the search results appear in a list to the left with the actual site referenced over on the right side.

When you register (stores search history and gives access to user preferences) you can designate yourself as a casual user or gadget guru and I definitely consider myself a gadget guru. Retrevo has lists, special reports, and a blog too where you can find more information about consumer electronics.
