Salmat CEO, Grant Harrod, said that SMEs would also be able to upload their catalogue to Lasoo — Salmat's online catalogue portal that caters to pre-shopping research.

According to Harrod, Lasoo reached 1.7 million hits in July, with approximately 45,000 offers listed in different catalogues on the site.

The Salmat CEO also said that after it released applications for smartphones and tablet (or "palette") devices, Lasoo's user base skyrocketed with over 240,000 new users.

Salmat stayed mum on the exact cost of the self-service design portal, saying instead that it will cost significantly less than taking out a full-service catalogue campaign, similar to that of a major client.

Harrod said yesterday that the internet gives retailers the opportunity to better present their products, and that companies must adopt a more diverse and digital advertising strategy encompassing the web, social media, SMS and print distributions.
