Samsung Electronics will launch a new Black Pearl version of the Galaxy S7 Edge starting December 9, the company announced.

The latest color will be exclusive to 128GB version and begin sales in South Korea Friday.

The company will sequentially launch the variant in Southeast Asia, China, and later the US, a Samsung spokesman said.

Samsung said the "glossy new colorway" was designed to be "modern and striking."

Since ending the Galaxy Note 7 in October, the South Korean tech giant has been promoting the S7 series of flagship phones launched earlier this year to offset losses.

In November, Samsung launched the Blue Coral version -- a color which was introduced with the Note 7 and well received -- of the Galaxy S7 Edge

Besides the original four colors: white, black, gold and silver, a Pink Gold version was also launched after unveiling earlier this year.

Due to the Note 7 fiasco, Samsung took a huge hit and saw $2.3 billion written off in its operating profit for the third quarter of the year.
