Ebbeck spent eight years with the company, half of that time steering the ANZ ship. The company told ZDNet Australia this afternoon that the executive plans to take "an extended break after many years of hard work, before embarking on his next endeavour".

"SAP has extended its appreciation to Tim for his contribution to the business over the years, wishing him every success for the future," the company added in a statement.

SAP Australia and New Zealand's chief operating officer, Shane Grobler, is set to take the helm until a suitable replacement for Ebbeck can be found.

Ebbeck joined the company as its chief financial and commercial officer in 2003, before moving into the chief operating officer role in 2005. His promotion to senior vice president and chief commercial officer for SAP for Asia-Pacific came in 2007.

An industry veteran of 25 years, Ebbeck has also held roles with Compaq and Unisys. Ebbeck today announced that he had also been appointed to the board of the Powerhouse Museum.
