In case you were looking for a good rumor to spread, here's one: Nintendo might be debuting a new version of the Nintendo DS handheld gaming system, and it's already being dubbed the "DS2."

According to Tech Radar, the rumors popped up recently at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco last week. And it was tech blogger Raymond Padilla who reported that some developers are hard at work on a second-gen edition of the DS in time for E3 2010, just two months away.

Padilla says that the DS2 will feature a dual-screen system with improved resolutions, an accelerometer and a NVIDIA Tegra chip. The developer kit should be similar to the one published for the GameCube.

But it remains to be seen just how much of an upgrade this will be, and how different it will be from the upcoming Nintendo DSi XL.
