Shell's five core businesses are to be brought in line with each other through the implementation of over 15,000 PCs using Citrix's Metaframe.

The Citrix Systems host will enable Shell to manage and deploy information from one central point. The implementation will provide access to SAP, Microsoft Office, Oracle and inhouse applications. Johan Krebbers, spokesman for Shell, said: "This enables Shell to deploy standard applications worldwide instantly to thousands of desktops. This in turn allows us to maximise our core business processes and to increase our productivity." Shell's five core businesses are: Chemicals; Downstream Gas; Exploration and Production; Oil Products and Power and Renewables. The Royal Dutch/Shell Group of Companies operates in over 140 different countries.
