Sony launches Music Unlimited streaming on PS3, Bravia TVs and more

Sony has officially launched its Music Unlimited streaming service, which is expected (or at least hoped) to give iTunes some competition.

The cloud-based music program streams music to Internet-connected devices (especially those made by Sony) such as Blu-ray disc players, Bravia HDTVs, PlayStation 3 consoles, computers and even Android devices. The catalog currently retains approximately six million songs that a subscriber can stream an unlimited amount of times.

Sony does want to play nice with iTunes and other existing media libraries that users might have. Users should be able sync up files and playlists across multiple devices with this platform.

The Music Unlimited service made its initial debut in the United Kingdom and Ireland today. A roll out across Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and New Zealand and the United States is planned for 2011. For reference, pricing plans start at £3.99/€3.99 ($6.14/$5.23) for monthly subscription plans.
