The world of storage becomes ever more complex...

Sun is expected to announce a storage software management suite early next year in a move to catch-up with the competition. The hardware giant is expected to unveil a standards-based management suite, which is designed to help customers to manage their increasingly complex storage environments. Sources within Sun said the company's suite - at least in part - will be called Integrated Storage Management, according to US wires. The move will come on the heels of recent similar announcements from competitors such as EMC and Hitachi Data Systems. Storage vendors are beginning to realise that IT departments are increasingly needing products which feature less proprietary technology and more interoperability as they adopt Network Attached Storage (NAS), Storage Area Networks (SAN) and other new storage technologies.
