System Management Meltdown

Consolidation is the name of the game in the Western European enterprise system management software market, or so I’ve been told by IDC. Next up, apparently, a new market will emerge known as 3S. This is made up of security, storage and system management. This is said to be sure to impact the specialised system management vendors.

The reason this is happening is that as in previous years, all of the major vendors made significant acquisitions to consolidate their positions in this fairly mature market.

According to the IDC study (Western European Enterprise System Management Software Competitive Analysis and Vendor Shares), of the well-established vendors, HP did well and proved its commitment to its software offering with its acquisition of Mercury Interactive, while IBM is still number 1 in the market.
