"The Morning Briefing" is SmartPlanet's daily roundup of must-reads from the web. This morning we're reading about the Internet of Things.

.) The medical Internet of things and the future of health care. How could medicine be transformed by smart devices? Dr. Anthony Jones, who works for Philips Healthcare, says a nurse could check on you four times a day, or there could be networked machines that send data on your vitals in a constant stream to a master control.

.) The Internet of Things isn't as new as it seems. When you boil it down to its elements, the Internet of Things is, today, little more than an expansion of traditional telematics, security and asset control applications.

.) Make way for the Internet of Things. Growing interest in the interoperability of household appliances and the difference this could make to our everyday lives, is leading to calls for new "standards" to be introduced to accelerate the way to the Internet of Things.

.) The new land grab for chip makers: The Internet of Things. While they may be selling the “picks and shovels” associated with the Internet of Things gold rush, the world of connected devices is a rich opportunity for semiconductor companies.

.) Will.i.am on the Internet of Things. Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas is happy to admit he's a tech geek. The musician, producer, philanthropist now has the title Director of Creative Innovation at the chipmaker Intel.
