VMware buys Arkin Net, adds software defined networking heft

VMware is looking for more throughput for its vRealize Suite as well as its ​NSX virtualized networking tools.

VMware said that it will acquire Arkin Net, which provides software defined data center security, operations and analytics, in a move that builds out its vRealize Suite application.

Terms of the deal weren't disclosed, but Arkin is likely to bolster VMware's software-defined data center lineup. The Arkin purchase is likely to close in the second quarter.

In a nutshell, VMware is looking for more throughput for its vRealize Suite as well as its NSX virtualized networking tools. Arkin's tools track data center traffic flows and enables NSX deployments. Once software defined tools are implemented Arkin's platform provides analytics.

Arkin will bring networking security and operations applications to vRealize. Arkin and VMware already have a bevy of joint customers. However, Arkin also integrates with a networking systems from Cisco, Arista, Palo Alto, Brocade as well as Juniper.

Separately, VMware said that it is rolling out new endpoint security tools via a partnership with Tanium and its TrustPoint unit. VMware also added identity defined workspaces for its Workplace One software, which is powered by its AirWatch software.
