The virtualization powerhouse said the revamped network illustrates the growth of its hybrid cloud service, with the addition of more cloud service options providing greater flexibility to customers.
The company has also rebranded its VMware vCloud Hybrid Service as VMware vCloud Air. Future as-a-service offerings from VMware will carry the "Air" brand suffix going forward, the company said.
VMware made some changes within its partner network as well, adding a badge system that helps customers identify and select validated providers as being IaaS Powered or Hybrid Cloud Powered, for example. VMware will also offer future badge validations to promote additional partner cloud services based future vCloud Air services.
"The VMware vCloud Air Network represents another key element of our cloud strategy — enabling customer choice and flexibility to find the ideal, local cloud service based on industry leading VMware technology," Bill Fathers, EVP and GM of VMware's Hybrid Cloud Services Business Unit, said in a statement.
VMware has been issuing a steady stream of product and corporate announcements in the run-up to its annual VMworld conference in San Francisco. On Wednesday the company announced that it purchased CloudVolumes, a provider of real-time application delivery technology, in order build real-time application delivery across all three of its technology focus areas.
